ATLANTA, GA 鈥� Georgia Charter Schools Association is grateful for the听commitment by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to fight for greater funding equity for Georgia’s state-authorized charter schools. The Lt. Gov. previously pledged to support increased funding prior to the start of the legislative session. Today鈥檚 statement reiterates his support and dedication to the more than听86,000 children of Georgia who attend public charter schools.听
“Representative Scott Hilton has sponsored an excellent bill (HB787) that would provide the increased funding that our state-authorized charter schools and their students deserve,鈥� said Tony Roberts, President听and CEO of the Georgia Charter Schools Association. 鈥淯nfortunately, this morning the Senate Education and Youth Committee passed a gutted bill that would actually furnish less equitable funding to our public charter schools and imposes unreasonable measures of accountability in order to achieve ‘average’ funding levels that would never be imposed on ‘traditional’ public schools.听We are grateful for Lt. Gov. Cagle’s commitment to put this bill back on course by restoring the vital funding contained in the original bill. We are behind him and the other state lawmakers who have pushed for this key legislation for state charter schools as they work to get this important bill across the finish line.鈥�
