On March 30, the State Board of Education approved a five year charter for The Museum School of Avondale Estates. The decision comes after the DeKalb County Board of Education agreed to a charter renewal petition for The Museum School last November.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to continue delivering on our mission: to inspire students, teachers and the community to collaborate to develop strong critical thinking, interpersonal and academic skills in our students, which will prepare them for聽real-world success,” said Andy Huff, Chair of The Museum School Board of Directors.
The school is currently finishing its first charter term. The new term聽will begin on July 1, 2017 and will expire on June 30, 2022.聽Currently, The Museum School serves approximately 540 students in grades K-8. By the end of its new charter term, the school plans to enroll 588 students.聽

During its current charter term, the school has exceeded both district and state averages on the CCRPI as well as Beat the Odds for all 5 years. The school also earned a 5-Star School Climate Rating in 2014 and 4-Star School Climate Rating in 2015 and 2016.
The Museum School of Avondale Estates uses the a museum school model in which the school partners with museums to achieve high academic standards by creating inquiry-based and experiential collaborative learning units.
