The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) has appointed Lauren Holcomb as its new Executive Director. Commissioners unanimously selected Holcomb on Wednesday, July 17, following a competitive search process. In her new role, she will oversee strategic planning, policy, communications and other initiatives for the SCSC. Holcomb has worked with the agency since the SCSC鈥檚 reconstitution in 2013.

She is the right person to advance our mission to improve public education through quality charter schools.鈥�
During her time at the SCSC, she managed outreach, research and support services to build the capacity of commission-authorized charter schools and increase the charter school pipeline.聽Most recently, she served as the agency鈥檚 Chief Communications Officer.

Prior to working at the SCSC, Holcomb served in numerous educational policy roles, including as an advisor to Governor Sonny Perdue. She was also the founding director of the Innovation Fund in the Governor鈥檚 Office of Student Achievement.
Holcomb聽received bachelor鈥檚 degrees in journalism and political science from the University of Georgia鈥檚 Grady College and School of Public and International Affairs and a master鈥檚 degree in public administration from the Andrew Young School of Policy at Georgia State University.
