Oglethorpe Charter School Teacher Nicole Wofford Dillon has been selected as a finalist for Savannah-Chatham 2019 Teacher of the Year award. Dillon currently teaches English Language Arts at Oglethorpe and has worked at the Savannah charter school for four years.
In the classroom, Dillon teaches writing to seventh graders. Last year, she organized an event 
called Significant Figures in African American History Wax Museum. The event was one of the largest the school has ever held with 100 percent student and parental participation. She was also previously nominated as the WTOC Top Teacher.
鈥淢rs. Dillon has gone above and beyond the call of duty to better herself professionally and personally, said Oglethorpe Charter School Principal Kevin Wall. 鈥溾�here are those in the education field that tend to get comfortable as the years go by and then there are those that are pedal to the metal and make every year better than the previous. If Mrs. Dillon chooses to stay in the classroom, she will finish her career pedal to the metal with her last year being the best.鈥�
Dillon is also active in the community. She is founder of (I AM.U.C.), an organization that focuses on boosting the self-esteem of young teenage girls. She also founded 鈥淕irl Talk,鈥� a forum to encourage, motivate and educate middle school young ladies. The Oglethorpe Charter School teacher also serves in a youth leadership role at the First New Light Baptist Church of Savannah. Other organizations and committees Dillon is active in include: the Savannah Federation of Teachers, Top Ladies of Distinction, and the PBIS Leadership committee at Oglethorpe Charter School.
Dillon holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master鈥檚 degree from Armstrong State University. She
currently pursuing an educational specialist degree in English education from Nova
Southeastern University.
During the next few weeks, a panel of educators and local community leaders will observe and interview Dillon and the four other finalists. The winner will be announced on February 23 during a special event to honor all of school district鈥檚 top teachers.
