Oglethorpe Charter School engineering and STEM teacher Theresa Luciano was recently selected 
to participate in the National STEM Scholar Program, a prestigious national professional development opportunity for STEM educators. Luciano is one of 10 middle school science teachers in eight states to receive the honor. She was chosen from among 200 applicants in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
鈥淭heresa Luciano is a phenomenal teacher,鈥� said Kevin Wall, principal and administrator for Oglethorpe Charter School. 鈥淪he has a thirst for learning and is one of Oglethorpe鈥檚 hardest working teachers spending countless hours with her students after school and on the weekends. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty in with our STEM initiative at Oglethorpe.鈥�
The week-long enrichment program was held earlier this month at Western Kentucky University. The program is geared toward middle school teachers and seeks to inspire passion and creativity in STEM education. Those selected, participate in hands-on science activities, engage with speakers and STEM education thought leaders. STEM scholars also receive financial support to develop a creative Challenge project that is implemented within their classrooms. Luciano and the nine other middle school teachers chosen for the program will share their progress during the National Science Teachers Association annual meeting in March of 2019. They will receive mentoring throughout the year from faculty members at Western Kentucky University.
