听New board members of locally-approved charter schools must receive three (3) hours of听Financial听Governance Training within their first year of service. The Finance and Budget Office of the Georgia Department of Education is the only provider who can deliver the training. The two options to receive the training are follows:
1. The Department of Education offers the required听Financial听Governance Training in late September in the State Board Room at the Georgia Department of Education, 2070 Twin Towers East,听Atlanta, GA 30334. This session is especially geared to local charter school governing board members. There is no cost for this training.
- The 2018 training session will be held on听Wednesday, September 26 from 8:00-11:00 a.m.
- To register for the听September 26听session,听forward听this email to Latoya Satter White at听lsatterwhite@doe.k12.ga.us听and provide her with your full name, email address, cell phone number, the name of your charter school, and the year you joined your charter school鈥檚 governing board.
2.听GSBA/GSSA has two conferences each year, one in Savannah in June and the other in Atlanta at the end of November and/or early December. At each conference,听Pre-Conference Training is offered on the two days before the conference.听Pre-Conference Training includes the three-hour听Financial Governance Training听that new charter school board members must receive.
- You only need to register for the听Financial听Governance Training portion of the Pre-Conference Training.听The cost is $75 for charter school governing board members that register to attend only the听Financial听Governance Training portion of the Pre-Conference Training.
- The 2018 GSBA/GSSA Annual Conference听will be held on听December 7-8, at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Atlanta 鈥� and听Pre-Conference Training will be held on听December 5-6.
- Please monitor the听GSBA/GSSA听conference website at听听for information on the date and time of the听Financial听Governance Training session.
Please note that these are the only three opportunities for new charter school board members to receive their mandatory FBO-provided听financial听governance training听and that there is no waiver of this training requirement.
