ÌýNew board members of locally-approved charter schools must receive three (3) hours ofÌýFinancialÌýGovernance Training within their first year of service. The Finance and Budget Office of the Georgia Department of Education is the only provider who can deliver the training. The two options to receive the training are follows:
1. The Department of Education offers the requiredÌýFinancialÌýGovernance Training in late September in the State Board Room at the Georgia Department of Education, 2070 Twin Towers East,ÌýAtlanta, GA 30334. This session is especially geared to local charter school governing board members. There is no cost for this training.
- The 2018 training session will be held onÌýWednesday, September 26 from 8:00-11:00 a.m.
- To register for theÌýSeptember 26Ìýsession,ÌýforwardÌýthis email to Latoya Satter White atÌýlsatterwhite@doe.k12.ga.usÌýand provide her with your full name, email address, cell phone number, the name of your charter school, and the year you joined your charter school’s governing board.
2.ÌýGSBA/GSSA has two conferences each year, one in Savannah in June and the other in Atlanta at the end of November and/or early December. At each conference,ÌýPre-Conference Training is offered on the two days before the conference.ÌýPre-Conference Training includes the three-hourÌýFinancial Governance TrainingÌýthat new charter school board members must receive.
- You only need to register for theÌýFinancialÌýGovernance Training portion of the Pre-Conference Training.ÌýThe cost is $75 for charter school governing board members that register to attend only theÌýFinancialÌýGovernance Training portion of the Pre-Conference Training.
- The 2018 GSBA/GSSA Annual ConferenceÌýwill be held onÌýDecember 7-8, at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Atlanta – andÌýPre-Conference Training will be held onÌýDecember 5-6.
- Please monitor theÌýGSBA/GSSAÌýconference website atÌýÌýfor information on the date and time of theÌýFinancialÌýGovernance Training session.
Please note that these are the only three opportunities for new charter school board members to receive their mandatory FBO-providedÌýfinancialÌýgovernance trainingÌýand that there is no waiver of this training requirement.
