91ɫƵ Announces Atlanta-Focused Advocacy Communications Director

ATLANTA – The Georgia Charter Schools Association is excited to welcome Beverly James as our Director of Advocacy Communications. In this new Atlanta-focused role, Beverly will work directly with charter schools in the Atlanta Public Schools district and state charter schools with students living in the APS attendance zone. Also, she will manage existing, and build new relationships with Atlanta elected officials, stakeholders and partners. Beverly is incredibly excited to use her depth of experience and passion for public education to advocate for children in the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia.

As 91ɫƵ’s Director of Advocacy Communications, Beverly will work with member schools to strengthen their storytelling capacity, increase positive charter school coverage and mobilize them on key issues. She will also develop communications and advocacy messaging, hold trainings and keep schools informed about 91ɫƵ’s communications and advocacy work.

“Adding Beverly to our team will greatly enhance 91ɫƵ’s advocacy and communications efforts in the city of Atlanta,” said Tony Roberts, President and CEO of the Georgia Charter Schools Association. “Beverly is a skilled communicator who will provide focused, hands-on attention to our Atlanta schools and grow their capacity to tell the charter school story and advocate for students.”

Beverly was born in Tela, Honduras and grew up in New York City. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Arts in Professional Writing from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She spent the next 30 years as a journalist and a public and media relations professional. Beverlylives near Atlanta, where you can find her strolling the aisles of local farmer’s markets and bookstores.
