Last month, students at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology (FAST) in Roswell, Georgia, collected donations for Hurricane Dorian victims in the Bahamas. Families gave more than 200 canned goods; fans; cleaning and school supplies; personal hygiene items and other food products. Over a three-day period, members of FAST鈥檚 Student Council arrived early to collect the donations from parents dropping off their children in the school鈥檚 carpool line.
聽鈥淥ur student council took the lead which was a source of pride,鈥 said Stan Beiner, Principal of FAST Charter School. 鈥淪eeing them taking on this community service project gives us a glimpse of what our next generation is capable of doing.聽They get it.鈥
The items donated FAST families were delivered to Caring for Others, a nonprofit organization with a mission to bring necessities to those in need throughout the world, on Monday, Sept. 24. The items were part of a larger shipment from across Atlanta and the state of Georgia sent to the Bahamas. FAST students collected a total of 50 boxes of donations for Hurricane Dorian victims.
