DeKalb Preparatory Academy Receives GOSA D3 Grant

The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) recently selected DeKalb Preparatory Academy as one of the Fiscal Year 2019 D3 Schools Project Grant award winners. The Discover, Design, Develop (D3) Schools Project provides high-need and rural schools with essential grant funding to help address their most significant challenges.

Those receiving a D3 Schools Project grant take part in a one-year strategic planning process overseen by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA). The process includes professional learning sessions, site visits and field trips. As part of the process, grantees design a program that targets the most critical need for their school or district. To determine their most urgent need, grantees collect data and conduct a thorough assessment of their school or district.

The basis of DeKalb Preparatory Academy’s proposal is to increase teachers’ pedagogical content of mathematics while facilitating Project Based learning and engagement techniques to increase students’ mathematics proficiency. The “Making Math Matter” program the school will create will also provide additional support to parents and caregivers of students for extended learning outside the school. As part of the program, the school plans to target sixty second-grade students and their families and six second and third-grade teachers.

The grant award period is from June 28, 2019, to June 30, 2020.
