On Monday, March 26, Congressman John Lewis paid a visit to Atlanta Neighborhood Charter
School. During the visit, U.S. Rep. Lewis spoke to the school鈥檚 middle campus students. Before speaking, Congressman Lewis heard from a student group for male students of color called 鈥淭he Brotherhood.鈥 Members of the student organization told the Congressman about a visit to several civil rights sites in Alabama.
“At ANCS we strive to develop students鈥 sense of agency to make positive change around them, and there鈥檚 no better example of that kind of activism than Congressman Lewis,鈥 said Matt Underwood, executive director of Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School.
The visit followed a speech by Congressman Lewis at the 鈥楳arch for our Lives鈥 event in downtown Atlanta. Rep. Lewis told students, 鈥淢y philosophy is simple: if you see something that isn鈥檛 right, you must say something, you must do something about it.鈥澛
The visit by Congressman Lewis was coordinated by ANCS parent Ashley Rouse and ANCS teacher Heidi Goodwin. Rouse used to work for the Congressman.
