Katia Clemons, a Kindergarten teacher at Peace Academy Charter School, was awarded the Charter School Teacher of the Year Award during the Georgia Charter School Association鈥檚 21st annual conference on Wednesday, March 13.
“Winning the Georgia Charter School Teacher of the Year award is a profound affirmation of the impact we can make when we invest wholeheartedly in our students’ futures,” said Katia. “This honor is not just a recognition of my work, but a celebration of the collective dedication of educators who strive to unlock the potential within every child.”
Katia’s remarkable achievements include elevating her students’ reading levels from 67% below grade level to just 4% in only 8 months. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has undertaken extra building-related tasks and spearheads a Science After School Club.
Katia’s exemplary rapport with parents and her innovative teaching methods, such as creating highly effective small group stations and personalized homework packages, showcase her dedication to meeting individual student needs. Remarkably, due to her students’ outstanding progress, she has already begun teaching 1st-grade standards.
Despite not being the Lead Teacher, Katia consistently supports her colleagues, fosters enthusiasm for school competitions among staff, and tirelessly works to provide additional support for students before and after school. Her exceptional commitment and positive attitude make her a shining example for the entire staff.
The Charter School Teacher of the Year Award recognizes educators like Katia who exhibit unwavering dedication to charter school students, families, and communities. As the 2024 recipient, Katia received $1,500 for classroom and educational purposes, further enabling her to continue her outstanding work in education.
