Avis Herron is K-3 teacher at The Globe Academy. Despite the challenges of teaching in a pandemic, Ms. Herron plans engaging lessons, maintains excellent classroom management (of students at home and school), and has an amazing positive energy.
Ms. Herron organized supply kits for all her students so they could perform hands-on activities/experiments at home. For a lesson about properties of matter and materials, students used paper to build structures as tall as a ruler, as well as structures that were strong enough to hold a book. Ms. Herron was teaching from home, had students working from home, and had a classroom of in-person students being supported by school staff. Students were engaged and enthusiastic, and Ms. Herron handled all the moving parts of the lesson with professionalism, patience, and kindness.
