On Monday, Dec. 4, the Atlanta Board of Education聽voted (6-3) to expand the charter for KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools by 1,100 seats. Board members also approved the addition of a new KIPP elementary school and middle school.
“We know that there is still great demand for
KIPP schools and high-quality seats throughout our city, which is why we are committed to growth to meet that demand,” said Kinnari Patel-Smyth Executive Director of KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools.

The APS Board聽vote paves the way for KIPP Soul Primary, which is scheduled to open with its 
inaugural聽class Kindergartners at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. The school will be located at the former Walter White Elementary School on Detroit Avenue in Atlanta. KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools plans to sign an initial one-year lease for KIPP Soul Primary. Enrollment at the school will be open to all who live in the attendance zone for Atlanta Public Schools. Priority will be given to families in underserved communities.聽KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools’ current waitlists include more than 3,000 students.聽
