Georgia Charter Schools Association congratulates the 16 Georgia charter schools that received FY 2019 Charter Schools State Facilities Grants. The Georgia Department of Education awarded a total of $1.4 million dollars this fiscal year on a competitive basis. Schools receiving the grants include: The Main Street Academy, Brighten Academy, Leadership Preparatory Academy, Odyssey Charter School, Amana Academy, Baconton Community Charter School, Tybee Island Maritime Academy, International Charter School of Atlanta, Rise Prep (Latin College Prep), Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School, DeKalb PATH Academy, Pataula Charter Academy, DuBois Integrity Academy, KIPP STRIVE Academy, Tapestry Public Charter School and Charles R. Drew Charter School Junior and Senior Academy.
The individual grant awards ranged from nearly $25,000 up to $100,000. Click to see the amount each school received.
Schools awarded the grants must use the funding to ensure the physical safety of students, employees and school visitors. When determining the grantees, the department ranked the following school safety facility needs in order of priority: perimeter security, internal security, general security, and physical safety. To be eligible, locally-approved start-up charter schools, conversion charter schools, and state charter schools must have fined an audit report for their Georgia nonprofit corporation in FY 2017 without an 鈥淎dverse or Disclaimer Opinion鈥� or 鈥淣o Opinion鈥� that filed by the November 1st deadline. They must also be in the process of purchasing the facility through a lease-purchase agreement or have a long-term lease of at least five years. Thirty-eight schools submitted a grant application.
