POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive Spanish language instruction to students, aligning state and district standards, fostering a positive learning environment, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues while ensuring students develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Spanish across various levels of learning; requiring a valid Georgia teaching certificate with a Spanish endorsement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging Spanish lesson plans that align with state and district standards, incorporating listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities.
- Create an immersive language-learning environment by incorporating interactive activities, songs, games, and storytelling to enhance student engagement.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback, differentiated instruction, and support to meet diverse learning needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date grade books, tracking student progress, assessments, and participation in accordance with school policies and grading guidelines.
- Foster cultural appreciation and global awareness by integrating Hispanic and Latin American cultures, traditions, and history into lessons.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to integrate Spanish language instruction into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, curiosity, and confidence in learning a new language.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and ways to support language learning at home.
- Organize and participate in school-wide cultural events, performances, or language activities that celebrate Spanish-speaking cultures.
- Stay current with best practices in world language education by participating in professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in [state/district] or ability to obtain one.
- Proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken.
- Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary level is preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to create engaging and developmentally appropriate language-learning experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with language immersion or dual-language programs.
- Knowledge of ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency standards.
- Experience using technology to enhance language learning.
Working Conditions:
- Classroom environment with interactive and hands-on learning activities.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required for school events and cultural programs.
